Captain Morgan

a/k/a "George Turnbull" (his real name)

June 6, 1938 - August 14, 2002
The 'Captain'

'The Captain' was one of the nicest and most trust worthy people I have ever met. I had no hesitation to tell anyone who asked that I trusted him with my wife, my child, my life, and my money!

When I first met the Captain many years ago (my daughter was 6 back in 1981!), the family was vacationing at the Sheraton Hotel in Ocho Rios (now the Jamaica Grande). It was very difficult to relax on the beach with the many locals trying to sell anything and everything to you on the beach. Worse yet, my wife and I could not relax and cool off in the water without the dreaded thought of losing our belongings (and daughter) on the beach. A fellow vacationer asked me if I met the Captain yet, and that he would solve all of our worries. A short introduction and conversation with Captain started us off to a long term friendship, and he became our 'Nanny' for many years running when we had out annual excursion to the Sheraton, and later known as the Mallards Beach Hotel. He was great with kids, teenagers and invaluable to adults!

His abilities with children were second to none, and if you needed him to be a 'Nanny' during your stay, you would have found he was absolutely the best you could find.

When we purchased our first property in Carib Ocho Rios, the Captain was there to assist us through the process, and help us renovate and then maintain the property. He would stop by the condo a few times a week for many years when we were not there to make sure everything was 'just right' for our guests, and make sure our property was safe and clean.

Captain Morgan would also be able to fill you in on all of the local culture and arrange for trips to see Dunns River Falls, Shaw Park Gardens, Fern Gully, and other beautiful places. He also arranged for water sports for our guests including jet skis, snorkeling, para-sailing, and many other items our guests wanted to see or do. And, if a guest needed to exchange some of their currency for J$'s, he made sure they got the best exchange rate available at the moment.

The Captain will be truly missed by our family, his family, and the many friends and guests we introduced him to. Whenever we were in Jamaica, he would be by our side assisting us in getting the most out of Jamaica, protecting us from unknowns, and generally being the best friend one may have.

One Love, One Heart, One Blood

Whenever we would separate from one aother for an extended period, or at the end of any of the countless phone calls to him over the years, he and I would say to each other, together, "One Love, One Heart, One Blood" to signify our true lasting friendship and brotherly love for one another.

Captain Morgan will truly be missed in our hearts, but never be forgotten in our minds.
